St Patrick’s Day 2006

St Patrick’s Day at the legion went much better than last year. It must have been this year’s serving-line crew:
The food was great thanks to the kitchen crew (no pics – sorry) and we made only a bit less than last year. Still a success!!

Like last year, we put in our 8 or 9 hours and dragged ourselves over to the family table to hang out and unwind. This year we had a few new faces and a few familiar faces. Being Friday night the crowd was a lot bigger than last year and everything was great. (Although Carrie and I agreed that we don’t want anymore corned-beef for a long, long time)

Uncle Mike kept us entertained for a couple hours before the group started to break up and we made our way home.

There’s a rumor going around that we won’t be doing this again next year. I can’t say I’m too bummed out about that since it is a day of hard work, but when it’s all said and done, it was nice to help out again.

Happy New Year

It’s 8:00am. I’m a little hung-over. I don’t know why I’m up this early.
The New Years Eve party was awesome!
Check out the pictures… I’m going back to bed.

St Patrick’s Day – Revisited

Well, it’s been a week. St Patrick’s day at the legion was an experience, I’ll tell ya. We got there about noon and went right to work. Carrie worked on the hot food line and I assisted at the sandwich table. Free beer and free food. All was good… for a while.

Sometime before the dinner rush, the lady that was working the register quit. Just quit. I still don’t know exactly what happened – all I know is that I looked over at the food line and there was Carrie with a big spoon of carrots in one hand while making change for a customer with the other. She had taken over the register while maintaining her part in the serving line.

Later during the dinner rush – my helper, (actually the guy I was supposed to be helping) said he was going to go eat dinner. I never saw him again. Ok… I did, but it was much later. After the dinner rush started dying down I noticed all the empty tables covered in dirty dishes and food. Sherrie had bussed tables earlier in the day (actually, Sherrie did a little of everything all day long) but was busy helping in the kitchen now. So I bussed tables and emptied garbage for a while.

By the time the evening ended Carrie and I had been on our feet for almost nine hours. Sadly, nearly all the beer we drank just made us tired. We cleaned up a little, (we had help for that, thankfully) packed up some leftovers and headed over to hang out at the big table with the family.

A few hours and many beers later we headed out. Thank god I took Friday off. It was a great day. We worked hard – but we had fun and it felt good to be helping out. Plus the fringe benefits were great!!
